Taste the Difference with Saffron

At Laura’s Farm, we pride ourselves on bringing the very best flavors to your kitchen. We recently launched two new saffron products that will take your recipes to the next level!

What is saffron?

Saffron is a spice that comes from the perennial flower crocus sativus, which is also known as the “saffron crocus.” Saffron might have originated in ancient Greece where it was first used as perfume. Over the centuries, saffron has also been used in cooking, medicines, ointments, clothing and much more throughout a variety of cultures.

Where is saffron grown?

The majority of saffron is grown in Iran, India, Greece and Morocco. The saffron crocus is a purple flower that blooms in the fall. The flower contains three red stigmas, which are made into the spice. Saffron is harvested by hand, and it takes about 1,000 flowers to produce just one ounce of spice.

What does it taste like?

Saffron has a complex, earthy taste that is well-liked by people of all ages. It is most commonly used with fish or rice dishes for a noticeably sweet and floral flavor. You will really notice a different in your favorite recipe when adding saffron. The spice also contains minerals, antioxidants and other health-promoting properties.
